About this tool
Who is this tool for? ▾
This tool is for UK managers and HR / People teams who need practical, structured guidance on workplace domestic abuse situations. It is not for personal use by those experiencing domestic abuse — contact the National DA Helpline (0808 2000 247) for personal support. Colleagues who want to support a co-worker should use the "See guidance for colleagues" link on the home screen.
What kinds of questions can it help with? ▾
The tool covers 18 workplace domestic abuse scenarios: responding to a disclosure, suspecting abuse without disclosure, safety planning, flexible working requests, confidentiality, policy development, recognising signs of abuse, handling a perpetrator employee, making referrals, and more.
What does this tool not replace? ▾
This tool does not replace: emergency services (call 999 for immediate danger), legal advice, formal HR case management, therapy or counselling, or specialist domestic abuse services. It provides structured employer guidance to support decision-making, not to substitute for professional advice.
What should I do in an emergency? ▾
Call 999 immediately. Do not delay seeking help in order to look up guidance. You cannot maintain confidentiality if there is an immediate threat to life. After the immediate situation is managed, this tool can help with next steps.
Does this give legal advice? ▾
No. This tool provides structured workplace guidance based on UK source materials. It is not legal advice. For employment law questions or situations involving criminal proceedings, consult a qualified legal adviser.
What source materials does it draw on? ▾
The guidance knowledge base was built by reviewing and evaluating key UK employer-facing documents, including statutory guidance, sector body toolkits, HR and employment relations resources, and specialist domestic abuse organisations. Source documents were assessed for relevance, authority, and alignment with current UK law and practice.
Can it help with policy development? ▾
Yes. Select "Policy and legal obligations" from the topic list, or describe what you need. The tool will match you with relevant guidance including the LGA template policy, the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 Statutory Guidance, and the EIDA implementation framework.
Guidance ready
⚠ Immediate safety concern
Call 999 now. Do not delay.
You cannot maintain confidentiality when there is an immediate threat to life. Tell the person you are calling 999 and why.
This tool is designed for managers and HR professionals.
If a colleague has disclosed domestic abuse to you, your role is to listen with care and to encourage them to seek support from a manager, HR, or a domestic abuse champion if your organisation has one.
Colleagues should not investigate, record disclosures, or manage the situation themselves. These responsibilities belong to people with the organisational authority to act — your manager or HR team.
If you believe someone is in immediate danger, call 999 now.
